It's completely altruistic

Right now, I can tell that my children don't watch television very much. They're enjoying a rare hour with the television, specifically on a (new to me) channel called qubo.

Sass just came running to me and said, "Oh, Mama! These commercials are so good! They really help me know what to put on my Christmas list!"

sigh

My kids watch TV but it is almost exclusively PBS. I remember one of the first few times they watched something on a regular channel, my son came in to tell me how frustrated he was that the show was "over already." He didn't get it that the show would continue after the commercial. I hadn't realized it until then, but they'd never seen a commercial until that point.

And I hate commercial TV for the same reason... planting all those images in their minds of the stuff they CAN'T. LIVE. WITHOUT!

I used to be so secretly proud that my daughter wasn't a "having" kind of person, and then we went to a toystore one day where she scooped up 4 Playmobil boxes to bring to me. "Want to put them on the wishlist!" she said. Want to admire them!"
