This morning Sass discovered the beginnings of an ant invasion in the dog food. It was definitely only a beginning, as there were probably only about 50 or so.
We've always kept the dog food in the same spot by the back door for the four years that we've had them. Always. I suppose we're lucky in that this was the first attempted invasion.
We struck strongly and swiftly, moving everything outside, then dousing with the spray that I've kept on hand just in case. We let it sit for a bit while we took care of the ones we'd taken outside, then came back in and mopped with the Power of Pine Sol.
Thankfully, I've always kept the dog food in sealed containers so it wasn't contaminated by the ants at all. But now I will be fully alert, on guard against the next attack.

I always follow the ant trail outside as far back as I can. Once it went out from our back door, through the garage and around to the front of the house. They were trying to surround us!
The ants here attack with a vengence and I attack right back. This year I got the bright idea I would not use chemical combatants and decided to boiled water and pour it over the ants. But they were in the yard. Yes, I boiled the back yard. I'll just leave it at that.
Ugg - that happens in our cat food sometimes - disgusting!
Vanessa: You boiled the back yard? Now, that's determination!
We had an aunt infestation once in one of the houses I lived in while I was growing up. Nothing seemed to work. I don't know how we finally got rid of them, but in hindsight, at least they weren't the bitey kind.
